Can I replay the game? It sounds like I have to write on the documents.

Our game will absolutely be replayable/repackagable!

First of all, we’ll provide a free online refill pack of all documents that you would expect to write on in the course of the game, so you can reprint them at home. We’ll also teach you how to put the game back together again, as it’s a little complicated.

We’ll ALSO offer up a classier refill pack which we will be printed in the same sumptuous manner as your original game, and which you can purchase as part of your fulfillment survey (i.e. after the campaign is finished) for some amount of money. We’re not quite sure how much just yet, but given that this is only paper, it shouldn’t be much.

Is this game finished? I like me a finished game.

Volume One is 100% designed and prototyped. Volume Two is 100% designed. Volume Three is 75% designed. We know exactly how the story and puzzle flow work for the entire game, and we have our manufacturing and logistics locked and scheduled. So yes, we still have a bit of work left to do before we’re at the finish line, but we wouldn’t have started this campaign if we didn’t have a complete vision and plan for the game. Back with confidence!

When will I get this thing? Can I have it tomorrow?

No. You cannot have it tomorrow.

Our current estimate is April 2021. We believe that to be a conservative estimate. Though the pandemic has created some complexities in manufacturing (see our “Risks” section for more detail), we feel confident we can deliver on this timeline. We also plan to be COMPLETELY transparent every step of the way; Hatch don’t play no games.

Do I need to know about Mary Shelley to enjoy this? Should I go read Frankenstein?

Well, first off, everyone should read Frankenstein. It’s great.

But no, you do not need any preexisting knowledge about Mary Shelley (or her famous and amazing novel that you should absolutely read) in order to enjoy our game. It starts from the assumption that you don’t know anything about either one.

That said, if you DO know some stuff about either Mary Shelley or Frankenstein, we promise that our game will be even MORE enjoyable, as we’re playing some fun games with both her biography and the origin story of her famous monster.

Do I have to be an experienced gamer to play this?

Emphatically no. We’ve gone out of our way to make sure this game isn’t just for expert puzzlers. It’s been designed so that you can simply enjoy the story…and maybe build a jigsaw puzzle or two, while using our granular hint system (“written” by Mary Shelley so it fits in as part of the game itself) to skip over any puzzles that aren’t to your liking.

Put more simply, this is a game for lovers of well-told tales as much as it’s a game for puzzle hounds.

Can kids play?

Yes. We’re saying it’s good for ages 13 and up in order to be super conservative. However, there’s really nothing “problematic” content-wise for any age group (no explicit language or violence, et cetera). That said, some of the puzzles are definitely too hard for a baby. See our launch video for a visual presentation of this problem.

Is this educational?

Yes! It really is. You’ll learn about Mary Shelley, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron, and other fascinating 19th century personages. You’ll also expand your mind in a puzzle sense; for example, one of the puzzles in Volume One teaches you how to read rhythm in music!

However, it’s important to note that the game wasn’t DESIGNED as an educational tool. The educating will just happen, insidiously, inevitably, without your knowledge. You’ll think you’re just playing a game, but then, by the time you finish, you’ll be a little bit smarter. We apologize for this bug.

What else have you guys done? I am skeptical you're gonna deliver.

So glad you asked.

Hatch Escapes has already created one large-scale escape room, Lab Rat, currently ranked the 12th best in the world (by ranking organization TERPECA). Terry has started and run several successful businesses. Tommy has published five YA novels with Simon & Schuster, including We All Looked Up, which spent 25 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Arvind has produced television shows (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, on BBC America) and Broadway shows (Jagged Little Pill) and written several TV shows and graphic novels.

In short, we’ve done many awesome things, and we are totally gonna deliver on this one.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
